Si Ling Secondary School Chinese
Orchestra was established since 1982. Over 20 years, the Chinese Orchestra
has established a reputation which the school can be rightfully proud
of. During this period of time, the Orchestra not only performed in the
school but also outside the school such as; Old Folks Home, Army Camp,
Community Centre and etc.. Our members were given many opportunities to
show their abilities to excel in the Orchestra such as the Chinese Orchestra
Camp, organised by the MOE. We also have our own Annunal School Camp.
Up to date, we have about 80 members
in the Orchestra and our conductor is Mr. Casey Ng , instructors is Mr.
Pang Zheng Shun (String instrument) and Mr. Lee Kern Seng (Wind instrument)
and we have also two teacher in charge Mdm Lim Hong Chee and Mrs Anna
Lim
In 1982, we had staged our first
performance in our school. After a year of establishment, the Orchestra
participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (1983) and was awarded a
distinction certificate. This award boost up the member's confidence in
building up a stronger Orchestra.
In 1985, we were invited to the
Singapore Broadcasting Station to perform live to listeners. And in that
year, we participated SYF (Singapore Youth Festival) and was awarded a
merit certificate.
In 1986, we've staged a concert
in our school and was well-received by the audience.
In 1987, we've participated in
SYF and was awarded another merit certificate. In addition, we were given
the opportunity to go to Sarawak in Malaysia to conduct our concert there.
During that visit we stage a 4 Day concert there. The Sultan of Sarawak
gave us a warm welcome and they were overwhelmed with our concert performance.
In both 1988 and 1989, we staged
our annual concert. And in 1989, our SYF competition was awarded distinction
certificate again.
In 1990, we staged another annual
concert in the old Singapore Conference Hall and was also well-received
by the audience. And in the following years, we took part in the SYF and
once again we were awarded distinction certificate.
In 1992, in conjuction with our
10th Anniversary, we staged a concert in Victoria Threatre. The songs
in this concert include ¸ ¤Ñ (fei tian) , º½
±Ú »R ¦±(yao zu wu qu ), ¿q ¥_
· ±¡(su bei feng qin) ,Âצ¬(feng
so) ,°ª¤s¬y¤ô (gao shan liu shui...
¿q ¥_ · ±¡" was performed in
Singapore for the first time.
In 1997, our percussion assemble
took part in the SYF and was awarded a sliver medal. It was well-receieved
by the judges and the audience.
In 1999 and 2001, once again we
take part in the SYF competition. In 2000 Annual Speech Day's dinner,
we performed to Dr. Tony Tan.
In 2002, we successfully staged
a concert in the Singapore American School and was well- received by everyone.
In addition two members from our Orchestra, Dedric Wong (instrument: ÜÔ
§o) and Chan Yong Xue (instrument: ²Ã ¤l) were
being choosen by the SCO (Singapore Chinese Orchestra) Camp 2002.
