Yo, Recon, how's the situation down there? "Well, Intrepid, we
have like uh... 20 heavily-armed terrorists in the building, and
they've held some 85 people hostage, mostly holed up on the 57th
storey. With the building sealed off on the outside by the police,
and ten of the terrorists keeping close watch over the hostages, I
seriously doubt they'll be getting anywhere." Yeah... I can see them
from my current location, and clearly, too. "So, Intrepid, do you
think you're up to the assignment?" Sure thing... Wait a second, you
hear what I'm hearing? Gunfire, and it's coming right over from the
building. Yo, Recon, situation update? "Gone from bad to worse...
all negotiations with the terrorists have broken down, and now the
police are exchanging fire with four terrorists at the building's
lobby. Go provide the police cover fire" Roger that, partner. *BLAM*
Make that one target down, three more to go. *Five minutes have
passed, and all hell has broken loose* "Terrorists have declared an
ultimatum; unless the 20 million ransom is paid, and jailed dictator
General Hernandez released from Titan maximum security, they're
gonna start killing one hostage every 5 minutes... and that includes
the Mars nation ambassador and his family." You're right... and we
haven't got much time. There's the terrorist leader with a hostage.
Jeez, it's the Martian ambassador himself. "It's time to act."
Alright, it's showtime... "How're your chances?" Not much, but I'm
taking my chances here to take out that scumbag. *Ker-chuk* Here
goes. Damn it... turn your head... look over here, stupid... no, not
there! Yes, that's right... right there. Very good, now say
'cheese'. *BLAM -- urk! Thud.* "Smooth as silk, Intrepid..." Heh, no
less than he deserves. "We'll take over from here... in the
meantime, stay put and wait for further instructions." Rockin'... --
A typical day in the life of Chris Cullen, codenamed "Intrepid". No
frills, no nonsense, he's a government agent cum troubleshooter.
Whenever there's trouble in some distant reaches of the omniverse
that threaten the Khazan government's interests, it's his job to
seek out that source of trouble and eliminate it. And in Chris
Cullen's own terms, he would probably describe his job and himself
using one word... "Groovy!"

|
Personality: Government agent, professional sniper,
international troubleshooter and one badass muthah... a man whose
attitude is matched only by the gun he carries; that's Chris Cullen
in a nutshell. When the government needs to have a major pain in the
ass removed discreetly, and make darn sure it never comes back,
Chris "Intrepid" Cullen is the man they may (or may not) look for.
Been at this job for more than 10 years now; and God... that's just
the way he loves it... whenever somethings troubling the government,
there's Chris "Intrepid" Cullen...

"Yo,
Intrepid, how good are you at this anyway?" Well, that depends on the
standards on which you judge. By human standards, I'm about as good as
they come. Well, I certainly can't shoot a bullet out of the air or hit
the blades of a helicopter's spinning tail rotor with one arm tied to my
back... but under normal circumstances, I could hit anything I'm aiming
at, wherever it is, anytime I want. I simply get the job done.
"Whatever... you're sure you could take him down?" You bet, partner. I
only need one shot... *BLAM -- urk!* "Whoa, smack right between the
eyes..." Now, partner, like you were saying just now that I couldn't make
that head shot, eh? "Alright, Intrepid, you win..."

A Sigma 51-T semi-automatic
precision rifle, balanced for minimal recoil and using the high-powered
.488 Winchester Magnum rounds, 7 shot magazine, complete with silencer and
infrared laser targeting sight and error correction/aim recalibration

situation, it is a professional sniper's erstwhile companion. "Would that
do? Or would you need something with greater range and firepower?" Yeah,
that'll be all I need to get the job done.

From a vantage point, 1
|
Every sniper
worth his salt oughta know that he should always strike from a vantage
point, one which provides good cover, hard to locate by the enemy, yet
allows you to see clearly where your targets are... and is comfortable.
The key here is "sneak and frag" - the moment your target sees you, he's
already dead. "What if there aren't any vantage points?" Doesn't happen to
me, no matter where I am, I can always find a safe vantage point; somehow,
somewhere... If you've been at this for as long as I have been, and doing
it as well, it shouldn't be too difficult.

Yo, Recon, this is a bad
location for me to be in... target's moved out of my sight range, and I
can neither get a good view or a clear shot from here. May I request warp
transport to a new vantage point? "Roger that, Intrepid. Make sure you
have your homing beacon on." Yeah, it's right on my wrist. "Here goes:
beaming target Intrepid to new coordinates... teleport successful -
Intrepid moved to new coordinates" Thanks, partner. Yep, this is a much
better spot... now I can clearly see my target from here. This is gonna be
easy... heads up, sucker!

I can't see my target through
all that snow and ice blowing around. I'm switching my rifle scope to
thermal mode now. "Thermal mode engaged" that's more like it... target's
pretty nervous, I can see that from the build up of his body temperature.
There's nowhere you can hide, not with all the infrared radiation you're
generating, I can see you from where I am; get ready to kiss your ass
goodbye...

Damn, this is one good spot...
excellent cover, great view. Only thing is, the target's too far away for
me to aim clearly - can barely make out that pinpoint of a head he's got
there. "Do you request a location warp then?" No need, I'm going into
telescopic mode... long-range vision with 20/20 clarity, and up to 20x
magnification. Alrighty... I can see your face clearly right here, boy
you're ugly - but that's not the reason I'm putting you six feet under.
*BLAM* Right between the eyes. "Excellent job, Intrepid" Yeah, and you're
buying me a beer once this job's done...

In times of doubt...
|
Now this
one's a tough shot to make... damn they're ever vigilant. The moment I
take down either of them, it's gonna give away my location, and I'm gonna
be so full of holes. Gotta take some time to analyse my situation... maybe
I can come up with a way to take them all out with one fell swoop. "Any
luck?" Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Look at those crates over there.
"The label read DANGER: TNT. Yo, Intrepid... you thinking what I'm
thinking?" You bet, partner.

explosion... the collateral damage inflicted took out more than just the
enemy. "Hey, Intrepid, you okay in there? *brief period of silence* Yo,
Chris, please respond..." Yeah, I'm hanging in there - barely. *cough* If
it weren't for the kevlar you'd instructed me to have on during all
assignments, I'd no doubt be a dead man by now. "Excellent job anyway,
Intrepid. Hang in there, we're picking you up from your current
coordinates." Excellent sense of humor you've got there, buddy. Like I'm
going anywhere in this state...
